I was thinking about that famous quote by Marianne Williamson: "Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." I know that this excerpt in the context of the entirety of the quote means to say that people often shy away from greatness because we don't want to enhance others' insecurity; we misunderstand that we are all great, that we are serving no one by shying away.

However, I was thinking that this quote says something more. I do believe that our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure, because I believe that our power is that we are capable of creating change, of doing what so many claim is impossible. Thus, our power makes us responsible for the state of our world. By acknowledging our power, we should feel incredible guilt--that we could change the world, but we simply don't. Instead, we convince ourselves that we are inadequate, that nothing can be done. Our greatest fear is that one day we will realize that we are responsible for our own inadequacy.
